School's Out Summer Organizing Tips

The unofficial start of summer is here. And if your kids are not yet out of school, they soon will be! With kids of any age back home, their school stuff comes back with them. You can save your sanity with some summer organizing.

Here are several School’s Out Summer Organizing tips for you:

  • First of all, empty all backpacks as soon as the last day of school is over! Because doing so will avoid the stress of having to clean out messy backpacks before school starts again.
  • Encourage your kids to do their own summer organizing. Let them go through all their notebooks, loose papers, flash cards, etc. to determine what to keep and what to toss or recycle.
  • Store pens, pencils, scissors, erasers, etc. in a convenient location so back-to-school will be a breeze.
  • Avoid buying more school supplies before you know what your kids really need.
  • Test out the functionality of all pens, pencils and markers. Throw away or recycle any cast-offs.
  • For high schoolers, donate all non-useful school supplies.
  • For younger children, encourage them to choose their best work for the year. Next scan it and turn it into a coffee table book. Check out PlumPrint and Artimus Art for many options. Do NOT keep every picture, quiz, spelling test, and art project.
  • For college kids, wash everything! Repack all winter items, including towels and sheets in clear and well-labeled bins. To avoid back-to-school stress, store everything together.

In closing, just doing these few small things will make a huge difference in the way the rest of your summer goes, and will making going back to school in the fall that much less stressful.
